"The Things They Carried," by Tim O'Brien

THE THINGS THEY CARRIED In his book The Things They Carried, Tim OBrien describes a group of soldiers marching through with(predicate) and through Vietnam. He does this by describing the items that each of them carries with him during the march. The things that the soldiers necessitate with them atomic number 18 both transp arent and intangible items and what these things are depends upon the individual soldier. They lend the basic necessities for natural selection and the bare minimum to top life as inhabitable as possible. They also carry memories and fears. The weight of these abstract items is as real as that of both somatogenic ones, and un standardised those physical objects, they are not so easily cast a mode. Throughout the story, OBrien alternates amid narrative passages and simple descriptions of the items that the soldiers are carrying. This frag stackstation brings focus to the things the men are carrying, both tangible and intangible, without downplay ing the narration. In the descriptive segments of the story, OBrien is very exact in his descriptions: As a first surrogate and platoon leader, Jimmy Cross carried a compass, maps, legislation books, binoculars, and a .45 dullard pistol that weighed 2.9 pounds full loaded. OBrien gives only a straightforward descriptions in these segments and the writing is void of any savour or sentiment. When describing the intangible things, the writing is a lot oft in air travel with the emotions of the characters: Jimmy Cross hump his love for Martha up the hills and through the swamps.. Lieutenant Cross remembered woful her left knee. A unrelenting theater, he remembered, .. when he touched(p) her knee, she turned and looked at him in a sad, sober way that made him pull his hand back, but he would invariably remember. OBriens writing takes on more sentimentality in these sections and adds a great deal of... I like this essay, but! you couldve through with(p) much better by describing rough of the events of the cold war.
